We hope to associate credit with each contribution, to the extent that it can be credited to specific individuals, but this is dependent on additional programming. In the meantime, we note them here:
The credit and thanks for translating a concept into bytes, thereby initiating the process, are due to Mikael Thollesson, and . James, as a four-summer intern with the Nemertean PEET project, is responsible for extensive overhaul of the site and most of its current structure. Most of the site is hosted on an Apple G4 computer using Apache Server, PHP and MySQL.
The literature and taxonomy databases are outgrowths of a long-running collaboration between Ray Gibson and Frank Crandall, initiated in 1986 at the Second International Meeting on Nemertean Biology, in Tjärnø, Sweden. This culminated in Ray Gibson's 1995 annotated checklist to genera and species of nemerteans and provided the starting point for this site's literature and taxonomy databases, which Frank Crandall and others have continued to develop and correct as part of the Nemertean PEET project.
The nemertean PEET students and especially Dante de los Angeles, a volunteer, have done yeoman's work in building the collection of PDFs. Hiroshi Kajihara provided PDFs of most Japanese literature and provided translations for much of it.Illustrations for the Anatomical Atlas were executed by Rebecca Ritger, as an intern in the Nemertean PEET project.
Mats Envall developed a superb module in FilemakerPro for Ototyphlonemertes taxonomy during his participation in the PEET project. We regret that now it is no longer fully functional, because software and security limitations caused us to switch to an incompatible server design. We hope to reconstruct that module in MySQL in the future.
Tristan M. Carland, as a two-term summer intern with the Nemertean PEET, has worked on mapping functions for us mapping, which he tested by researching and developing a latitude-longitude database for species of Tubulanus.
This site is hosted by The Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History and edited by Jon Norenburg and Frank Crandall.
The task is funded by NSF PEET grant DEB 9712463 to (Smithsonian Institution) and (George Washington University).
