Donate your old worn out worms to a good cause!

Are you tired? Frustrated? Just plain stressed out by the prospect of curating all of those worms you have been accumulating over the years? Fear no more! We will take those old work-a-day worms off of your hands and put them to good use. They will find a happy home in our collection here at the Smithsonian. It is a culturally diverse environment represented by all of the known Phyla. Many social activities are available. We have a wonderful exchange program where many of our worms enjoy spending time visiting other nemertean species. For the really adventuresome worm there are "Phylum Days" where they can spend a day in another Phylum.

Steps for donating specimen material to the nemertean collection at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History:

  1. It is the responsibility of the donor to ensure that all permits for collection and exportation of biological material be obtained prior to shipping to the Smithsonian institution's National Museum of Natural History. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Department of International Affairs maintains a directory of permit issuing (management) authorities and scientific authorities for CITES party nations.
  2. Obtain and complete Deed of Gift and Specimen Data forms for all items being donated.
  3. Contact or to arrange receipt of the donation.
